Bama Crimson Tide Blog
Again, sound off. Make some comments. I want to hear from you!
It is definitely a rebuilding year. And I don't know where to begin. Well, we can begin with the loss of 2 assistant coaches (Kevin Steele to LSU and Lance Thompson to Auburn). That hurts. But I have faith in Coach Saban to keep the fires stoked and hire the best talent that is available. With that said, we definitely need to look into the cupboards and see what we have in the way of a QB. Who do you think will emerge by the A Day game as the starting QB? Sound Off - I want to hear from you.At WR - I see a STAR in ArDarius Stewart (#13). I think he is another stand-out WR. I think we need to reload at both the O and D lines - along with the Defensive secondary. We have some very bad losses at Safety and LB. We also need some standout/lock down Corner's. I am hopeful come National Signing Day that we will re-stock the cupboards which look a little bare.
This past week, in the most recent edition of ESPN the Magazine, is (in my opinion) a very biased cover against Alabama Football and the SEC. ESPN admits that Alabama and the SEC are the most dominate conference in college football. BUT, they go on to say, or infer, or whatever, that they want somebody, anybody, or more precisely, the USC Trojans to take them down. This isn't the first time that ESPN has been sniffing the USC jock strap.
Does ANYONE remember the year 2005? More importantly, the 2005 USC Trojans? You know those guys; Reggie Bush and Matt Leinert. Where are they now? Isn't Bush playing for those lowly Miami Dolphins? Is Matt Leinert still in the NFL? I think he was the 3rd string QB in Houston last year. Ok, he actually was the 2nd stringer until Leinert got injured in his first starting game and TJ Yates came in and stole his lunch money AND took away his starting job. But I digress. I remember the 2005 USC Trojans, but not because I was in Iraq that year, but because ESPN (the network) kept airing show after show after show touting the 2005 USC Trojans as THE BEST COLLEGE FOOTBALL TEAM OF ALL TIME! Yes, it's true. Look it up! ESPN didn't give the Texas Longhorns a chance to win the Rose Bowl. None. Nada. Zip. Bupkis! Well, you shouldn't need Wikipedia to know that the Texas Longhorns took USC to the proverbial woodshed and shocked ESPN and the rest of the sporting world!
And just in case you think that I am biased towards the Alabama Crimson Tide, you should know that I am (I am an Alumni). But you should also know that I am about RIGHT! Right is right and wrong is wrong. And blind devotion is wrong and just plain dumb. Be educated. Plus, apparently, I am not the only person who believes that ESPN is all over that ESPN Jock Strap. Check out this little anti ESPN-USC Trojan nugget ESPN Drunk Behind the Wheel of the USC Bandwagon by Kerry J. Byrne of Coldhardfootballfacts.com.
I don't want to spoil the article for you. Honestly, I just glanced through it because I can barely stomach the drivel that comes of out of ESPN when it comes to their OVERWHELMING bias towards certain teams. And you know the ones I speak of (Ohio State, Michigan and Notre Dame). I will save my extreme dislike of media bias for Notre Dame for another time. Until then, ROLL TIDE!
BamaCrimsonTide fans, readers, and wanderers, I have some terrible news: Derrick Thomas has been snubbed, yet again for the College Football Hall of Fame. I am sure the mighty Bama faithful know this, but I felt I had to say something. Especially since it's been a while since I have been on here. Derrick Thomas, what does he have to do to get inducted? Isn't enough to know that he has also been snubbed by the NFL Hall of Fame?
Derrick Thomas played at the GREATEST University in the land: THE UNIVERSITY OF ALABAMA! He played from 1985 - 1988. He was drafted 4th overall in the 1989 NFL Draft by the Kansas City Chiefs. Derrick Thomas (D.T.) played all 11 of his years as Linebacker with the KC Chiefs. D.T.'s 52 sacks give him more than twice any other player in Bama history. In the NFL he recorded a career 126 1/2 sacks (11th all-time). As if that aint enough, check out what Bleacher Report has for him (http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1184708-alabama-football-derrick-thomas-snubbed-again-really?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=newsletter&utm_campaign=alabama-crimson-tide-football)
1) Most blocked kicks in a game with two. (Tied with three other players.)
Again, I'm not sure what he could have done more of to earn his place in the College Football Hall of Fame. I don't suppose an FBS record 27 sacks in a single season is good enough. 88 career tackles while at Alabama aren't good enough either. Maybe the Hall is snubbing Alabama, as pretty much any organization or media do. It's easy to hate greatness. But you have to acknowledge it. Derrick Thomas, I am sorry that you aren't in either Hall of Fame. Soon!
Well, the NFL draft has begun and it looks like Andrew Luck just went to Indy. RGIII is the odds on favorite for the Redskins, but who thinks Trent Richardson will go @ #3? If so, where?
I know it's been a while since I last posted here. I am sorry. I have been busy and lazy at the same time. So, it's nearly February 1st and you know what that means. And if you don't, it's National Letter of Intent Day in America. The day that High School Seniors sign their letter of intent to a specific university.
We will all be waiting from that day forward to see who signs with the Alabama Crimson Tide. I know I will. The grades won't be far behind either. I am hoping and praying that Alabama has another good recruiting year. Next year in the SEC West and in the coming years it is going to get much, much harder. Every year Arkansas gets better and better. And LSU, whahat can you say about LSU except that like Alabama, every year, they too are in the hunt for a National Championship.
And now you have to compete, in Texas no less, against Texas A&M. This is going to be tough. I give Texas A&M 3 years before they will be respected, if not feared in the SEC. It will all hinge on their coaching and recruiting. It's a great time to be an Alabama and SEC fan!
But wait…. There is more! Isn’t there always more? It wasn’t unanimous. Imagine that! It seems there were 4 people who voted Oklahoma State as #1 instead of Alabama. And why do you think that is sports fans?? Can you say “bias?” I know I can.
And who were these losers?
These biased voters are upset because the BCS chose the best two teams in the country. PERIOD. NOBODY could beat LSU except Alabama and LSU. LSU played THE hardest schedule this year and went UNDEFEATED! Alabama’s ONLY loss was to LSU, in OT with NO Touchdowns scored.
Who did Oklahoma State play AND lose to? What UNRANKED school was that? Oh yeah, it was that perennial BCS contender (that’s sarcasm) Iowa State. UnRanked Iowa State. OSU had their chance. THEY blew it.
So how do the voters take out their frustrations? They punish the champions. The voters did it in 1966 to Alabama (The Missing Ring) and those 4 voters tried it in 2011. Boo! Grow up. If you don’t like the system, change it. If the BCS won’t change, call your Congressman.
I recently wrote an article about Greg McElroy and Teamwork for Street Articles this past week. This was in response to comments he made on a radio station in Birmingham, Alabama last week. There were a lot of negative comments made in response to his "frank" talk of what was really happening inside the Jets locker room. I applaud his candor and his courage in this day and age. So many athletes are self absorbed and only in it for themselves.
If you think so too, please take a few minutes and go and read my article. I am by no means a professional journalist. No, I am just an average, not avid sports watcher. I make my comments and critiques, but I try not to be overly critical. That is unless it's about Jerry Jones and Tony Romo. Hint, I am NOT a Cowboys fan. Here is the URL for my article. http://www.streetarticles.com/football/greg-mcelroy-and-teamwork
Thank you for checking it out! ROLL TIDE
Well sports fans, it’s that time of year, again. It’s time for the
nominations to the NFL Hall of Fame. It’s time to wonder when and if
one of the greatest Wide Receivers to ever lace up cleats will get his
shot. I know this has nothing to do with Alabama football, but it is football and it needs to be addressed.
Who is that neglected Wide Receiver? It is none other than Cris Carter. Now, I am not a Minnesota Vikings fan. I never cared much for the team. But that doesn’t diminish the fact that a great injustice has been committed over the last 4 years. Yes, an injustice! Cris Carter has been overlooked for 4 years.
When he was first nominated, he was nominated along with Michael “Crackhead” Irvin. Well, you can imagine who got in and who didn’t. But why? Was it because Irvin was a better WR? No, Irvin ranks in the high 20’s to low 30’s in ALL WR categories. Cris Carter is in the top 5 in all WR categories. So it must have been Super Bowl rings that did it. Irvin has 3 and Carter has 0.
Well, he gets another chance this year. And I think his chances look good. If you read this Bleacher Report article, you may even agree with me. Good Luck Cris Carter, you deserve it! http://ping.fm/J23E7
